Kerala's Palakkad District - Organized Elephant Killings
Kerala's Palakkad District - Organized Elephant Killings!
Seventeen elephants have been found killed in this region during this past year. Several deaths were from the use of explosive food, in which a pineapple or other fruit is stuffed with explosives. Oftentimes the source material for the explosives are firecrackers.
Explosive food is one of the leading causes of elephant death in Sri Lanka - up to 100 elephants per year! Recall that there are only 4,000 wild elephants in all of Sri Lanka, so this is a horrendous situation -- leading to species extinction!
India has apparently discovered the same brutal method to dispatch elephants! Please know that the inflicted elephant dies a slow and agonizing death by starvation and often dehydration, as their mouth is destroyed beyond repair.
In this latest case filed with the Supreme Court in Delhi by advocate Avadh Bihari Kaushik...the incident which came into light on May 27 ... when a pregnant elephant was found standing in Velliyar river in Kerala's Palakkad district and later the animal drowned and died in the river. [1] In his plea, Kaushik has said that another female elephant had met with similar fate in April this year in Kollam district in Kerala. [2]
The case has been transferred to CBI and it should be conducted under the constant monitoring of the apex court.
As the judge is apparently so doing, we support the appointment of a government official to probe these cases, enforce the laws and stop these killings. These low life criminals must be brought to justice!
